What makes Chinese kenpo different than other martial arts?
Chinese kenpo is a Self Defense based karate system. Each stance, kick, strike, and kata movement can be interpreted as a specific defense from various attacks. Chinese kenpo is a combination of hard and soft styles. Hard styles (like Tae Kwon Do and Okinawan Karate) incorporate rigid movement with quick and powerful blocks and strikes while stances are primarily used for rooting or setting a stationary position. Soft styles (like Kung Fu and Tai Chi) use circular flowing motions for srikes. Stances are used for adding balance, which can add power to strikes and locks, or taking balance away from your opponent. This combination creates a complete system for all levels of defense.
